Lori Pendergast, President of Arrowhead West, announces her retirement and will begin a leadership transition. Pendergast has been a strong pillar that has made Arrowhead West what it is today. We have been fortunate to have her extraordinary leadership during her long career.
“Lori has been a great asset to Arrowhead West. She has been dedicated to our mission, always serving in the best interest of our clients for more than 40 years. Her service and dedication are greatly appreciated. While she will continue to be associated with AWI in some capacity, we will miss her as President and CEO. We wish her the very best in her retirement,” said Lawrence Lampe, Arrowhead West Inc. Board of Directors Chairman.
Pendergast has served in various executive capacities at Arrowhead West, most recently as the organization’s President since 1999. “I have been fortunate to work in the field of Developmental Disabilities for the last 40+ years, starting with a state hospital and seeing the field change to one that promotes inclusion in the community. The people we serve and their families are so appreciative of the individualized services that we provide.  There are so many good people that I had the opportunity to work with over the years including co-workers and our board members. Arrowhead West, Inc. definitely follows its mission which is to empower people to live meaningful and productive lives,” said Lori.
The Arrowhead Board of Directors began the process of selecting Pendergast’s successor in 2021 and are excited to announce that Michael Stein, Vice President of Administrative Services for Arrowhead West has been selected to become the new President for the organization. Mike joined the Arrowhead West management team last fall after serving on the Board of Directors for 26 years. Mike is a long-time resident of Dodge City and has a BA from St. Mary of the Plains College in accounting and mathematics, BA in Pastoral Ministry from Newman University, and is a Certified Management Accountant. He worked for Consolidated Communications, Inc. and its predecessors for 32 years in various internal audit, finance, and accounting positions.
“After nearly a year-long search for a new President, I am so happy that Mike decided to apply and has been selected to be my successor.  His previous work experience, current position as Vice President of Administrative Services along with 26 years of volunteer board experience with Arrowhead will help make it a smooth transition,” said Lori.
“I am honored to be chosen to serve as the third president in the 45-year history of Arrowhead West, Inc. I look forward to working with the talented and dedicated Arrowhead West staff members across the agency, with our Board of Directors, and all those in government, other non-profits, our donors, and members of the communities in which our clients live, to continue the legacy of quality services to our clients and their families that Lori and her husband, Don, Arrowhead’s first president, have been so instrumental in building,” said Mike.
Lori’s retirement date is set for mid to late 2022. The board will approve a transition plan at the March meeting.
